February 2006

Holy shit that’s some load time!

Load time is a bit long on some games on my PSP (Virtua Tennis, I’m looking at you). But on Socom, Grand Theft, the load times are tolerable (maybe a minute at most). Sure, that’s kinda long, but its not that bad for games with worlds that big.

Smackdown vs. Raw is a fighting game. A fixed ring fighting game. Its environment is nowhere as rich as Grand Theft Auto’s, yet it takes longer to load.

Fortunately this game is shitty so I don’t want it :)

Not just the Democrats this time…

If you haven’t heard about the deal with a Dubai based company to handle port security, well, you need to get your head out from under a rock.Within the last few days, the chorus of opposing voices has risen.  President Bush declared that he would veto any attempts to block the deal via legislation.  Yesterday, he said he would accept a delay, and as it turns out, the company itself has now decided to delay the deal.

Various people in Congress have complained.  One of them is Sue Myrick.
Sue Myrick used to be mayor of Charlotte.  She eventually moved on to the US House of Representatives and apparently has held onto her seat for a while.

She sent a letter to President bush on the 22nd of February.  She’s released the letter for public consumption here.  A choice quote would be “HELL NO”.  Read the letter and see for yourself :)
By the way, she’s a Republican.

On this issue, I have to ask how is this any different from the status quo?   The company itself is not the last word for port security.  That’s the responsibility of Homeland Security, since it now controls the US Customs service along with the Coast Guard.  Granted, the security may be incredibly lax, and given the volume of shipments, only a small portion will ever get inspected.  A short review period, as proposed by Hillary Clinton under a pre-existing 1992 law. should be enough to determine whether or not national security will be affected by this deal.

Happy Hunter S Thompson Day!

Perhaps it shouldn’t be called happy, perhaps it should be a sad day.  You wouldn’t have read this far if I had said that though, so consider yourself conned :)

A year ago, February 20th, 2005, Hunter S. Thompson ended his life.  He’s the great writer the probably more famously known Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.  Johnny Depp followed Thompson around in order to get his mannerisms correct.  Thompson was also the force behind gonzo journalism.

An amazing man.  Good thing he got an amazing funeral

Maybe the new Bond isn’t so good…

Daniel Craig was a pretty decent actor I thought.   I liked his acting in Layer Cake and it turns out he was in Munich too.

Layer Cake was just a good crime movie I thought, highly recommeded.  The cast works perfectly together and its got a few twists.
Munich was pretty good, a bit long though.   Spielberg can make some good serious movies.

Anyways, back to Bond.  Apparently Craig lost some teeth in the FIRST fight scene for the new James Bond flick.  Now he’s being told to wear guards for the rest of the stunts.  Hopefully they won’t tone down the fights (which honestly aren’t that good already) and make this a boring ass movie.

Just for clarification, James Bond movies are only meh action movies anyway.

Sean Connery was the only real James Bond :)

Bringing back the fun classics

PowerStone was a great series of games on the Sega Dreamcast back when that was the new hot thing.   That was years ago, but even now its still a lot of fun to play.

Looks like Capcom is going to be nice and release it for the PSP.  This, Grand Tourismo for the PSP, and an upcoming  Final Fantasy are gonna destroy me :)

King Kong was pretty good

Yea, so I guess I’m a bit late to this one.  But just finished watching King Kong and I have to say it was pretty damn good.  Peter Jackson redid the movie in a way where you sympathized with Kong.  The CG was sweet too, how many times do you see a dinosaur stampede or a T-rex fighting a gorilla?
