its good to relax
Didn’t do much this weekend. Spent some time catching up on things from work, but nothing significant. I went out on Thursday to cash in on Circuit City’s clearance on the Logitech Z-680 speakers. Here’s a link if you care:http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2,CONTENTID=5048Ended up going out the following day to score a new sound card, in order to take advantage of the Dolby Digital decoding on the new speakers. Looked at an Audigy 2 ZS, but that stuff is pretty expensive. I’d need the Platinum version, which was $200 in order to get a digital hookup. So I went out and got this instead, the Turtle Beach Riviera:http://www.turtlebeach.com/site/products/soundcards/riviera/Now with all this setup, I know why I’ve been getting AC3 dvd rips lately. Movies are a lot nicer with surround sound =)Played some music through them but was badly disappointed. I’ve heard these speakers suck for music anyways. The subwoofer is way too overpowering, even turned down significantly. The satellites and center speakers are kinda weak in the midrange as well, and their highs aren’t all that nice at all. But for $200, I can deal.Finally got a copy of Unreal Tournament 2004 from Amazon….they had a deal for a copy of the DVD version of the game for $20. Thats totally worth it and its about time for new maps anyway. I’ve played the demo to death.Went out to a random Cuban restaurant last night for osme food. First time grabbing Cuban food, not too bad. The place was way overpriced though, which took away from its charm. Watched this season’s finale of the Simpsons. It was pretty funny, too bad there won’t be any new episodes for a while. South Park is stopped for the time being too, along with Chappelle’s show, if he decides to come back. Aqua Teen Hunger Force might be my only hope for fresh entertainment, but they’re pretty sporadic on releasing new episodes.

The story of wasted weekends
Yup, last two weekends wasted thanks to work. Isn’t it awesome?Two weekends ago, new version of the site goes out to the world. No biggie, just conference calls and all that, and an emergency call Saturday morning. Nothing too bad though, no late nights. Still killed a Friday, which is a pretty severe offence if you ask me. You just can’t take that from people =PManaged to see Kill Bill 2 finally. Much better than the first one I thought. A bit more focus in this one, and a bit less pointless gore. Don’t get me wrong, the first one was decently cool. But there’s a point when that one extra dead dude doesn’t really do much more than the other 10 dudes on the ground. Guess it got the point of one pissed off bitch across though.Saw the trailer for the US release of Hero while at the Kill Bill 2 showing. About damn time that came over to the mainstream audience. That movie was #1 in 2002 in China and kicked total ass. Its just gonna make some more $$, and thats totally worth it for a well made piece like this. If you haven’t seen/heard about it, you will soon.This last weekend was spent supporting another major deployment. Basically, the site major companies (Boeing, Detroit Edison, etc etc) have been using to purchase their large and profitable orders hasn’t been updated in nearly 5 years. This was the update, using the framework I helped write. A 5 year beast of an application doesn’t go down without a fight, and this was no exception. Fortunately I didn’t catch the majority of the issues, that’ll be next month on the next site refresh =PStarted playing Hitman 3 heavily. I forgot how much fun it is to be an assassin. Far Cry is on the back burner for the time being, especially since it actually gives my video card a good run for its money. Hot damn thats impressive. But it definitely looks nice =)Been thinking about revamping the weblog code….its kinda ugly in some respects. Might end up waiting until PHP 5 comes out though, or if that takes too long, a decent ASP.NET host shows up. As a result of coding it for nearly two years, I’ve become damn proficient at C# based code. At least its C based, and not VB based….Texas is starting to get warm. 90s during the day, high 70s at night. Damn my electric bill is gonna start creeping up some. Hopefully I won’t be crippled this whole damn summer….just gotta avoid those pesky rocks.Got bored last night and priced out an Acura RSX Type S. God damn that car is cheaper now than when I was actually shopping for a car. Its a pretty fucking sweet ride too. Too bad, not having a car payment is nicer for the time being. Speaking of that, Honda has been spamming the hell out of me about the new 2004 Accord Coupes. Granted, they’re nice, but geez, they need to chill the fuck out. I paid off that car ASAP for a reason, and it wasn’t to go out and get a new one. Besides, I’d totally go for the RSX Type S over the Accord given current prices ^_^ Holy shit that thing would haul some ass.Hopefully won’t be on call this weekend (another major launch), but knowing my luck and since I worked on the framework….

Posting goodness
So its been a while since I posted. And away we go =PDidn’t do too much lately. Went to a new club downtown the other weekend. Well, not really a club, a bar with floor space more like. Expensive drinks, and crappy music. An awesome combination. Its a pattern around here.Work sucked, blah.Friday night, went to a friend’s birthday party. Lots of booze, lots of food, until the rent-a-cop crashed on the party. at that point we raided someone’s apartment and the debauchery continued =PThis weekend, went out towards Houston. On the way there, in the last 10 miles of the trip, my rear right tire blew out. Talk about an unexpected expense. Took a while to even find a garage that could do the work that day, and then got mildly gouged for it. Damn that pesky 4 tire requirement. All well, fuck it, these new tires (got 2) are grippier than my old ones.Was planning on raiding Houston’s Chinatown, but with the unexpected fun, I didn’t have time. I’ll have to run by there again to hit it. Spent the night hanging out and watching the South Park Marathon. Good stuff. Would have gone out, but the rain was still coming down, not heavily, but enough to prevent greater aspirations.Far Cry seems to be a pretty cool game. Taxes the hell out of my video card too. Talk about nuts. Want to try Hitman 3 sometime, even though its supposedly more like just an expansion of Hitman 2. Saw a bunch more episodes of Aqua Teen Hunger Force. New episodes are starting to come out too, it just kicks ass. The timing is decent, Chappelle’s show is done for this season, and the Simpsons can’t go on for more than 3 or 4 more new episodes this season.Penn and Teller’s Bullshit started up again, its good programming too.Saw the new Iron Chef America. Its utterly horrible. The floor reporter is a complete moron, the \”expert\” commentator is kinda boring, although he does know what he’s talking about it seems. The new chairman is the nephew of the original. The Iron Chefs are Wolfgang Puck, Mario Batali, and Bobby Flay. Nothing too awesome there, especially Flay. The first two episodes were Flay vs Sakai and Morimoto vs Batali, and somehow the new Iron Chefs managed to beat the old ones. Just not as good in my opinion.Got the book the movie \”A Beautiful Mind\” was based on at a used book store. Good condition and cheap =)
