March 2004

Anyone here?

Damn I’ve been busy lately. Its just ridiculous. Last Friday the next version of Dell.com was deployed, which kept me up late into the next morning and made me miss a few shows I was planning to see. Wtf, damn work got in the way again =P Had to stay late last night as well, once again into the morning, due to another issue on the site that I won’t disclose publicly yet. Suffice it to say I’ve been on too many core framework teams, and that causes me to get dragged in when some of these applications consuming the frameworks get in trouble. Wheeee….Fortunately the preceeding Wednesday I went out to see Chris Fortier. He was disappointing at best. They compare him to John Digweed sometimes, who I’ve also seen live. And he doesn’t compare. I give him a severe \”eh\”. At least it was fun being in a club with decent intelligent lights again. A little flashlight and a laser do NOT count, you need the full on setup with projectors and that whole bit.SXSW was eh once again. Its the whole leaving the mainstream and listening almost exclusively to electronic music thing biting me in the ass again. Austin is not a good place for that kind of music at all. Live music capital of the world my ass. Name me a town where local performers can’t play at a bar/restaurant and not get heckled/cheered. The number of bands may be disproportionate to the population size here, but that by no means justifies this city’s self annointed title.Spent a good bit of the weekend watching more basketball. It’ll get good this weekend, with some serious matchups. Can’t believe Kentucky got beat though, thats just crap. And during the UNC vs Texas game, well, lets just say I wasn’t watching that at a local bar ;)Disturbingly enough, a few folks and I decided to go and see what a rodeo really is. It was at some local fairground nearby. Eh, its like a state fair but with more animals that reek. Kinda boring, nothing really entertaining watching some dude climb up on top of a seriously pissed off animal and hang on. That and the people at the show seriously weirded me out. It was a sea of cowboy hats, then me and my friends who stuck out like a sore thumb. I suppose I needed boots and a hat to fit in or something. Yeah, that only provided mediocre entertainment, but what else are you going to do on a Sunday? At least its one more thing I can say I’ve done, and one more thing that I’ll never do again =P Time would have been better spent staring at paint drying.Burning Man is coming. I think I’m going as a fox =)

Dave Attell is funny as hell

Got back from the Dave Attell show a little while ago. He is funny as all hell. This is the second time I’ve seen him, but this time it was a comedy club, instead of out at the tents at CMU during Spring Carnival. He’s funnier when he’s indoors and drinking, and not worried about some kid that might have wandered in to see the festivities. Good shits, and I was sitting right next to the stage, which is a good bonus. Pics are here:http://kyle.rewq.org/gallery/DaveAttell03-08-2004The weekend was wild. It was nuts. It was full of debauchery. And Duke beat UNC, which tops it all off ^_^Just got in the mail a check from the nice people at Honda. Apparently their books say I overpaid by a whole $2.60. I’m glad they kept track of that pitance, after taking a significantly larger amount of money out of my ass. Good thing the rates were super low though, gotta love a down economy.Been thinking about whether or not to stay at this apartment. Will probably have to stick my head out these next few weekends and see what the prices are nowadays. Moving is a bitch, but eh, if its a respectable savings per month, I’m up for it. Besides, can’t stay in one place too long, the neighbors might organize and kick me out, hahaa. Conan really needs to stop with the repeats on Mondays. Thats absolutely no fun, now I have nothing to entertain me while I do the dishes. What an inconsiderate ass =P

A new month, a new entry

Amazing eh? Every now and again a new entry will show up here.Nothing much besides work happened in the last two weeks since my entry. Its gotten warmer here though, which is a bad thing. I don’t like the heat/humidity, so its time for the a/c again. At least the power bill isn’t bad for an apartment =)With the warmer temperatures comes the delightful allergy season. Seems pretty bad this year….a 12 hour Zyrtec isn’t cutting it anymore….about 6 hours in its time for another one. Whatever the hell is in the air, I hope it rediscovers gravity fast.Spent the last weekend just hanging out at random friend’s places. Kept it pretty chill, so got some decent relaxation out of the time. Fortunately, next week I’m seeing Dave Attell on MOnday, then probably hitting a few parties during the rest of the week. That South by South West (http://www.sxsw.com/) conference/convention is going to be next week, and with it they’ll drag a few decent dj’s into town. Considering what I think of most of the locals, this is a \”good thing\”.Work is calming down a tiny bit now, since the project deadline is approaching fast. It’ll probably get super hectic one last time before I’m in the clear for a few weeks. THat’ll be nice, relaxing some.Unreal Tournament 2004 kicks so much ass. Might even have to get the retail version when it comes out ;)Good thing LOTR cleaned up at the Oscars. It rewards that whole group for actually having a kickass trilogy. I mean seriously, how many good trilogies are there? Godfather? (third one sucked) Matrix? (no) Its a hard thing to pull off such a badass movie, even harder to get a company to front you all the cash you need in order to do it properly. Need to do my taxes sometime, probably this weekend. What a wild and crazy time that’ll be =PNaruto does seem to be pretty entertaining. Kenshin dragged me in, this series looks like it will too. Thats the nice thing about working. Besides a few late night conference calls and occasional email checking, you’re pretty much free after you leave work. Free time is sweet.
