So its rumored

http://houseandhome.msn.com/Move/BestPlacestoLive0.aspxSo Austin is #1. I guess its not too bad of a place if you like Mexican food and enjoy the police oppressing the electronic music lovers in the town…I say San Fran wins ^_^

Super Bowl and so forth

So I ended up not going to Houston as I had planned. I’ll have to check presale tickets earlier next time I guess. Thats the second time I’ve missed Frankie Bones. Hopefully, there won’t be a third.Spent the weekend in Austin as usual. Visited Star of India and pigged out on their buffet. Curry is good like that.Watched the Super Bowl at a friend from work’s place. I still don’t really give a shit about football. The worst part was that a lot of the commercials sucked too. I don’t understand why Visa paid $1 million just to show an ad they’ve been showing for a long time. The commercials just sucked honestly. Thats ok though, I saw the new Matrix trailer. The new Hulk trailer looked pretty fake, so there goes more hope for that movie. That Sql worm sure kicked the Internet’s ass this weekend. It was pretty amusing. The best part was that it required the incompetence of two layers of admins. The first layer, the firewall dudes. Why the hell was port 1434 not filtered? Why the hell does a database need to talk to the Internet? For that matter, why does any traffic have to go out from a company intranet to 1434? Do we not understand what VPNs do? The second part, why wasn’t the patch, which Microsoft called \”critical\”, not applied? Yes, it was a more of a pain in the ass to install using the first package that was released. Yes, I know it involved some copying of data. But why the hell wasn’t it eventually applied? Thats just insane. True, Microsoft got screwed too. So what? Quit blaming Microsoft when incompetent administrators are the real blame.Ok, thats it. I feel better. Taxi Driver is a great movie. Move along, nothing to see here.

Thats him, thats the one

Nope, I haven’t disappeared off the face of the earth just yet. Instead, I got really really lazy and didn’t really update anything in my blog for a while.Nothing too much has happened, as usual. I found out Texas has some really expensive car insurance rates, supposedly due to all the uninsured drivers on the road. That might be part of it. Another part might be the women driving down busy roads and putting up make-up on the morning commute. It was cold as hell over the weekend, into the low 20s Fahrenheit. Makes me almost miss the freezing temperatures in Pittsburgh. Note the word \”almost\”.Messed with my computer some over the weekend. I played around with Aston Shell (http://www.astonshell.com) for a while. It really is pretty neat. You can make buttons on your desktop that are interactive. Not just icons on your desktop; real buttons that are integrated into your desktop. Its so flexible its really awesome, but then again, that brings out its main weakness. Its so flexible that its impossible to learn how to tweak it in a relatively short amount of time. A window manager is a pretty important piece of any windows-type operating system, and I’m also lazy. That forced me to go theme hunting, and honestly, almost all the themes available were either tacky, or just plain ugly. So I’m back to using StyleXP (http://www.tgtsoft.com) to give my WinXP setup a new look. Finally turned up my stereo during the week, when I had to make a run back to the apartment. No, I mean REALLY turn it up. Ow. I think I lost some hearing, and I was in the bedroom with the doors closed. Yeah, I like this stereo =)Still on the hunt for a cheap Canon S230. I’ve given up on getting it much cheaper than $340 + tax, but I don’t really have too pressing of a need for a camera in the near future, so I can wait a bit. Not too long though, I’m missing pictures of riced up cars that look like shit that I see on drives to work or to get groceries ^_^Thats about it. Boring as usual.
